Review: Misikko Hana Flat Iron + Giveaway!

I recently received this Hana Professional 1" Flat Iron from Misikko.com. I usually try to flat iron my hair if I have time or want my hair to look presentable for some reason. If I'm off to class or grocery shopping, I would probably skip that step since my hair is fairly straight to begin with. I just like that extra smooth look. I had been in the market for a new flat iron so I was really excited to test this out. Their claim to fame is that they have the "Best Flat Iron" with their Hana 1". First off, props to Misikko for this adorable packaging- I am a big sucker for cute packaging and they definitely got to me with the bows and plastic roses. Their shipping was very speedy- received it in about a week. My package came with the following items: 1" Flat Iron, Heat Mat, Tin Case, Leather (ish) Storage case, Storage pouch, Shine Shield, and complimentary hand sanitizer and emery boards (standard when you order this flat iron). I got the pink iron which I really loved (yes, i'm kind of a girly girl). While my review may not have a whole lot of merit since I have generally straight Asian hair to begin with, I was pleasantly surprised with this iron. I had never really invested money in a good iron (never spent more than $40 on one), so I could really see the difference between a cheap one and a professional one. It didn't seem to "fry" my hair as much and gave my hair a smooth, shiny look afterwards. Here are some more descriptions from Misikko.com:

As, you can see, the iron is made in Korean, home of all awesome flat irons, I hear? The flat iron is currently sold for $118 online with free shipping, and includes everything you see in the box above (including the shine shield, which I haven't tested yet but will in another post). Yes, this is a hefty sum. It is a professional flat iron so you get you the quality you pay for. If you're looking for a quality flat iron that you will put in good use and willing to invest in a nice one, this is a great option. If you're just looking for one to play around with from time to time, you can probably just purchase one at Target. If you're interested, Misikko also sells CHI Flat Irons, FHI Flat Irons, and Professional Hair Dryers (sorry, no reviews on those). Spring Cleaning Giveaway!

So it's that time of the year! As the school year ends, I'm prepping to move out of my apartment and head back home. A bit sad but that's a story for a whole other post. Review: Jewels of Denial + Giveaway

I was recently contacted by the folks at Jewels of Denial to try their product and write a review about it. I took a look at their website and was really intrigued...the prices of their sterling silver jewelry seemed very affordable and looked great a well. They sent me this Swarovski Crystral Eternity Band in Sterling Silver, priced at $17.99. I orderd a size 5....their sizes range from 5-10. Normally, I wear a 4.5 (I know, tiny fingers!) so I was a bit disappointed that they didn't carry my size. But I later found out that they sell "pinky rings", which are sold in sizes 4, 4.5, and 5. Shipping was very quick- less than a week. The item arrived packaged in a purple, velvet pouch- which makes it great for gift giving.

I was very surprised by the quality of the ring. Not that I'm an expext in expensive jewelry or anything...but I thought this ring looked pretty close. I love the sparkle and shimmer of the crystal on this ring. This specific style is an eternity band so I thought this would make a great gift for girlfriends (though I'm not sure if any boys read my blog....girls, let your guys know!). For those on a budget, this can defnitely be used as a promise ring, wedding band, etc...Jewels of Denial also sells engagement rings, "love" rings, and rings that are suitable for everyday wear. They also have a selection of other jewelry, though I don't have a review on those. From what I've seen so far, their products seem like great quality and you don't have to spend a lot.

I know you all must love shiny and sparkly things as much as I do so I'm really excited to announce this next giveaway. Review: Skin MD Natural + Giveaway

I was approached by those over at Skin MD Natural to test their Face, Hand, & Body Shielding Lotion and now, I am finally getting around to doing it. First off, you may be wondering 'what's a shielding lotion?'- here's a brief snippet from their brochure: "Shielding lotions not only protect the skin's barrier but they restore the moisture to the skin and allow the skin to continue to moisturize itself, so that your skin does not become addicted on the moisturizer and ultimately cures the dry skin." Shielding lotion is a fairly new product to skin treatment scene. I was really intrigued by this product as it's different from most traditional moisturizers. It helps rebuild your skin so that is can heal itself. When I first used the product, I liked that it was super light. It won't clog your pores, cause acne, etc. I was skeptical too because I do tend to have extremely dry skin and prefer something heavier for the winter. I tested it for about 1 week- 1.5 weeks. Honestly, I really wasn't expecting too much from this product but I was fairly surprised by the results. After a couple days, my skin felt a bit softer and had a certain glow to it. It's hard to pinpoint exactly what I like about it but my skin just looked overall healthier. It's definitely a great product for those who like light moisturizers. I personally would probably save it for the spring or summer as I like to lather on heavy moisturizer in the wintertime. Skin MD Natural also uses natural ingredients so you don't have to worry about what you're putting on your face. The price per bottle is $18- which can be a bit pricey for some but if you can, I would always splurge a little more on the important products like moisturizers, foundation, etc. Just make sure to do your research before hand about what products might work for you before spending a whole lot on one product. Review: Sigma Travel Kit + Giveaway

Hey all, I recently purchased a Sigma Travel Kit in Naughty in Black and wanted to do a quick review on it. I had first heard about these brushes from YouTube Gurus and honestly, I was a bit skeptical about whether or not they were worth all the hype. I decided to go ahead and purchase the travel kit since I didn't own any travel sized brushes and do travel every now and then. The kit came with 7 brushes (click the link for more detailed info) and also a complimentary SS187. To my surprise, I also received a full size Indian Girl eyeshadow (a shimmery brown) for free. The brushes come with a leather-like pouch for storage and comes shipped in a purple baggie as well as instructions on how to care for them. So far, I'm really happy with the quality of the brushes. I own a few MAC brushes and the quality between the two brands is very comparable. They are very soft and durable. I've washed them a couple times and I haven't experienced any excessive shedding- just a couple hairs here and there.

My two favorite brushes from the kit are the SS187 and SS150. The SS187 is a Duo Fibre brush, like the MAC 187 (Sigma brushes are number in relation to their MAC counterpart). I actually own the MAC version (which I love). When comparing the two, there are very similar and actually produce the same results for me when applying my liquid foundation. I also love the SS150, in terms of quality and density. It's a great full brush that is really soft and great for applying powder.

The best part about the kit is that it only cost $49 + $4 shipping. If you do the math, that is a under $7 per brush, plus you get a carrying pouch as well as a full size eyeshadow. It is also very handy and easy to pack if you're on the go. If you want an even better deal for everyday use, purchase the full size complete kit....I just might :)

Review: Pure Ice Nail Polish + Mini Giveaway (CLOSED)

A while back, while browsing through the aisles of Walmart, I spotted a nail polish brand called Pure Ice that caught my eye. I was particularly looking for a shade of purple like the much talked about Metro Chic by Sephora by O.P.I. At the time, I wasn't ready to splurge the $9 on it. I found this color in the Pure Ice collection- I'm not sure if it has a name but the number is '966CP'. From memory, I thought it looked somewhat close and decided to give it a try. About a month later, I received a $15 gift card from Sephora for being a Beauty Insider and decided to spend it on the real Metro Chic. Here's how the color's paired up:

Ok, so I guess I don't have the best judgment of color since the two don't really match up. I must say I am a fan of Metro Chic- I love the grey undertones. But I also love this color by Pure Ice. It's really pretty and great for everyday (I think I love anything purple in general). The color is hard to describe- maybe a deep lavender/ plum. I was also surprised with the quality. I don't really expect much from an inexpensive nail polish but with a couple applications and a top coat, it held up pretty well. I will definitely be checking out the rest of the colors next time I'm looking for a new polish.

Victoria's Secret Reward Card Giveaway

Good news to all those who, like me, love to shop online. The Victoria's Secret Semi-Annual Sale has already begun online today. It won't hit stores until early January.
