Boscia BB Cream + Other Favorites

By now, I'm sure you know what a BB Cream is (on the other hand, I'm still trying to figure out CC Creams?). For the most part, I use a BB Cream as part of my everyday routine. I'm lucky enough to have fairly good skin, with the occasional blemish, and on most days, I can get away with a BB Cream and some concealer. I have definitely tested out my fair share of BB Creams in my day. Some I loved, some not so much. One that I find myself going back to is the Boscia BB Cream SPF 27 PA+++. Boscia was one of the first with a BB Cream out in the American market and I still do think that it's one of the best.

One of the main issues I have with BB creams is that some aren't really BB creams. The market is really saturated with tinted moisturizers masked as a beauty balm. The thing I love about the Boscia one is that it looks rich and creamy when squeezed out of the tube but the actual feel of it is completely different. Like a beauty balm should, this one has a high water content. It goes on smooth and feels very light, absorbing into your skin quickly like a good BB cream should. It's oil free and has SPF, so you're really all set with this product but you can wear your everyday moisturizer under it if you like.

There is one thing though that I don't love about this Boscia BB cream and its the shimmer. It's not so extreme that it'll make you look like a disco ball and personally, I don't mind it. But it's definitely noticeable and if that's something you really can't stand, then this BB cream might not be for you. This also only comes in one shade, like many BB creams. The tube claims that its a 'self-adjusting shade for all skin types'...which might be true but I'm not sure I buy it. It could work for most with light to medium skin tones but I would be weary to pick this up for those with darker skin tones.

Overall, this is a great product for those looking for something to even out their skin tone and blur imperfections. This is definitely not anything close to a foundation and if you're looking for medium to heavy coverage, this is not for you. But for those days you want to have a little makeup on, this is perfect. This Boscia BB cream retails for $38 and also comes in a travel version at Sephora. If you're looking for something a little more affordable, I recommend the Lioele Water Drop BB Cream (an original favorite from a Korean brand) or Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream (which comes in multiple shades).

Have you tried this? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Review: Everyday Minerals Brushes

I am a big fan of mineral makeup. For everyday wear, I'm a pretty minimalist kind of girl. Who really has 20 minutes to spare in the morning for makeup when you can be getting some extra ZzZ's? I find mineral makeup to be the easiest to apply. No need to blend- buff away and you're ready to go out the door. While I've never really been a big fan of Everyday Minerals foundation (sorry but Bare Escentuals for the win here), I have to say that I really do love their brushes. It's hard to find a good quality brush without paying a whole not- I'm really the kind of person ready to shell out $50 on a makeup brush. Yes yes I know they will last you for years and years- but really, $50? (Yea, it's the cheapo in me talking) So when I fell upon these Everyday Minerals face brushes, I knew I was onto something. I own two of their face brushes- the flat top and the long handled Kabuki. I use the flat top to apply mineral foundation and it worksbuffs like a dream. The bristles are very soft and dense (check out the picture above- sorry for the dirty brush). It also provides great coverage (for a lighter coverage I would suggest using the Kabuki). It also works great for a powder. It costs $11 dollars- $8 more than the ELF Studio Powder Brush (which I also love) but you get the better quality. Now, I haven't really used the long handled Kabuki (and I'm also confused as to why its called a LONG handled Kabuki) so I'm kinda hesitant to give any review on it but its just as soft as the flat top so I think I will be very happy with it once I put it to good use. It will also cost you a dollar more. These brushes are also really great for traveling- they fit right in the palm of my hand and probably in any makeup. For more information about how to purchase, check out www.everydayminerals.com.

FYI...all purchased by me!

Review: ELF Nail Polishes

Recently, I stopped by the Jack's 99 cents in Herald Square, NYC. For those of you who have never been there, it is basically 3 floors of cheap finds. I like to stop in there from time to time since they carry ELF's entire regular line (or most of it).Anyhow, I was surprised to see that they started carrying some of the new summer nail polish colors. The ones that I spotted were Lilac and Mint Green. Since I already own a similar green, I decided to go with the Lilac. I also picked out a Pearl Pink (turns out I really hate this color, too pearl-y?). While I wasn't really expecting much from a $1 nail polish, I was still a little bit disappointed. ELF's products are mostly hit and miss and I just really wanted this one to a hit. But no, not meant to be I guess. The formula is very very very watery. After I applied the first coat, my nails looked practically the same, maybe just a little more glossy. It took me about two or three more coats to get the color you see in the picture and who really wants to do all that work? Also, I noticed that the polish began to separate already...and I had only owned it for a day. So if you're looking for something to play around with, buying this couldn't hurt. But otherwise, try something else.

(+) Pros
  • Cheap
  • Nice bottle?
(-) Cons
  • Watery Consistency
  • Takes too much effort

Review: NYX Rouge Cream Blush in Natural

If I had to choose between powder, cream, or gel blush, I would probably pick cream. I think it gives the most natural glow and color to your cheeks. With that said, I still use powder blush most of the time since I think its the easiest- just put some of your brush and apply it to your cheeks and you're good to go. With cream, there's a little more blending involved...not ideal for days when I only have a couple minutes to spare to put on makeup. I still really love the effect of it so I decided to pick up this cream blush by NYX in the color 02 Natural (fyi, NYX products are really great if you haven't tried them..and affordable too!). I purchased this online so I wasn't really sure about the color...I wanted something rosy, natural, and simple and this looked like it fit the bill. Some reviewers liken it to MAC's Lady Blush- I haven't tried that one yet so can't confirm. When I received it, I was really happy with the color. It's a gorgeous soft baby pink that gives a nice, dewy, everday glow to your cheeks. The texture is really, really creamy which makes it easy to apply too much so you have to be careful when you first use it- the first time I used it, my cheek looked ridiculous. I used a stippling brush to apply it, which I thought worked really well. You could also just use your fingers and blend it out. Here is a swatch and the ingredients list on the back:

(+) Pros:
  • Beautiful color!
  • Cheap- about $6
  • Natural looking finish
  • Creamy so it can be used on lips too
(-) Cons:
  • Might be a bit too creamy- easy to apply too much
Overall, I really like this product...might just go back to cream blushes for a bit. What do you guys think about cream blushes?

Love & Beauty Nail Polish + Ramble

A few posts back, I blogged about the new hot trend this season...mint nail polish. While I was waiting in line at Forever 21 and bored, I was browsing through the piles of cosmetics from their new "Love & Beauty" line near the registers and spotted this shade...appropriately named Mint. At $2.80, I had to give it test. Turns out I really like it! I loveeeee the color and the quality is pretty good too...might be heading back to F21 for more.

Just an update on my life...I'm back in the city and done with college! Yippeee! I'm really excited for the summer and the start of this next chapter in my life. I definitely have more free time now to blog so hopefully, you guys will be reading more of me in the near future. Let me know if you have any posts you want to see. Don't forget the Missiko giveaway...another 1+ week left. I also have a couple other giveaways lined up for the summer so look out for those. Hope everyone's having a great weekend and enjoying the amazzzzing weather!
Mmmmm....fresh spicy tuna kimbap....I love summer in the city!
Until next time...Little Miss Savvy

Review: Wet n Wild Coloricon Palettes

If you've been browsing through the makeup offerings at your local drugstore lately, you've probably come across these: Coloricon by Wet n Wild. These particular palettes come with 6 shadows (3 matte and 3 shimmer each). I believe I also saw singles and doubles eyeshadow palettes available in this collection as well. I found these palettes at Rite Aid for $4.99 each. But luckily, I got them for buy one, get one free. This week, Rite Aid is having a BOGO on all Wet n Wild products, as long as you have their new Wellness+ membership card, which is free and takes about 30 seconds to sign up for. These two palettes attracted me the most...I saw another palette (not sure of the name) that had mostly neutral browns..which normally I would jump at but after looking at my makeup collection lately, I felt that I needed to venture out of my normal color zone a bit. So the two palettes that I pick up were 248 Lust and 246 Greed. Here's are some more up-close pictures and swatches:

248 Lust
246 Greed

As you can tell, I really liked the color payoff of "Lust" way better. The lighter colors from "Greed" barely showed up on my skin at all, though the black and shimmery gray weren't too shabby. With a bit of primer, these shadows could be great. For $4.99 a piece, they're definitely worth it for those who are just starting to use makeup, want to build up their collection, or just want to play around with some colors. I have yet to really test them so more updates to come on their lasting power. I will be doing some looks with these in the future, so look out for them. Let me know if you've tried these palettes and whether you like them or not!

Review: Misikko Hana Flat Iron + Giveaway!

I recently received this Hana Professional 1" Flat Iron from Misikko.com. I usually try to flat iron my hair if I have time or want my hair to look presentable for some reason. If I'm off to class or grocery shopping, I would probably skip that step since my hair is fairly straight to begin with. I just like that extra smooth look. I had been in the market for a new flat iron so I was really excited to test this out. Their claim to fame is that they have the "Best Flat Iron" with their Hana 1". First off, props to Misikko for this adorable packaging- I am a big sucker for cute packaging and they definitely got to me with the bows and plastic roses. Their shipping was very speedy- received it in about a week. My package came with the following items: 1" Flat Iron, Heat Mat, Tin Case, Leather (ish) Storage case, Storage pouch, Shine Shield, and complimentary hand sanitizer and emery boards (standard when you order this flat iron). I got the pink iron which I really loved (yes, i'm kind of a girly girl). While my review may not have a whole lot of merit since I have generally straight Asian hair to begin with, I was pleasantly surprised with this iron. I had never really invested money in a good iron (never spent more than $40 on one), so I could really see the difference between a cheap one and a professional one. It didn't seem to "fry" my hair as much and gave my hair a smooth, shiny look afterwards. Here are some more descriptions from Misikko.com:
  • Advanced Tourmaline Ceramic Plates for Accelerated Ion Generation and Maximum Frizz-Free, Conditioning Shine
  • Ceramic is naturally hygienic, protects color & retards fading
  • Floating 1” Plates Auto-Adjust To Glide Over Any Hair Texture
  • Curved Plate Edges For Versatile Styling - Curl, Flip or Straighten!
  • Adjustable Temperature Dial - 5 Settings from 140-450° F for All Hair Types
  • Flash Heats in Seconds with Instant Compensation for Heat Loss
  • Ergonomic Handle Design with No-Slip Grip
  • Smooth Grooves Keep Hair Strands Separate and Snag-Free
  • Tangle-Free Salon Quality Cord Swivels 360°; Convenient Hanging Loop
  • Energy Efficient at 38 Watts
  • Independent On/Off Switch
  • Made in Korea
  • Two Year Warranty
As, you can see, the iron is made in Korean, home of all awesome flat irons, I hear? The flat iron is currently sold for $118 online with free shipping, and includes everything you see in the box above (including the shine shield, which I haven't tested yet but will in another post). Yes, this is a hefty sum. It is a professional flat iron so you get you the quality you pay for. If you're looking for a quality flat iron that you will put in good use and willing to invest in a nice one, this is a great option. If you're just looking for one to play around with from time to time, you can probably just purchase one at Target. If you're interested, Misikko also sells CHI Flat Irons, FHI Flat Irons, and Professional Hair Dryers (sorry, no reviews on those). Also, here are some before and after pics of my hair after using the flat iron if you're interested:

Now, on to the fun part, Misikko has graciously offered to give away the Hana 1" Flat Iron to one of my readers plus all the extra goodies I got as well (basically, everything pictured above minus me). Here's how to enter:

Review: CouponChief.com

Lately, I've been using this site called couponchief.com and I wanted to share it all with you guys. I have one rule of thumb when shopping online- always use a coupon or promotional code. Couponchief.com is a great place to search for coupon codes for all your favorite online retailers- they have thousands of them on their website. For example, some of my favorite stores to shop on online are victoriassecret.com and urbanoutffitters.com. All you have to do is type in the name of your store in the search bar and promotional codes for that store will show up. Copy that code and use it when you check out. You can also sign up for an account and they will send you email alerts and updates when new coupon codes have been posted. I really like this site in particular to all the other ones out there because it's simple and easy to use and always has the most up to date coupons. Be sure to check it out and let me know what you think, hope it helps!

Review: Jewels of Denial + Giveaway

I was recently contacted by the folks at Jewels of Denial to try their product and write a review about it. I took a look at their website and was really intrigued...the prices of their sterling silver jewelry seemed very affordable and looked great a well. They sent me this Swarovski Crystral Eternity Band in Sterling Silver, priced at $17.99. I orderd a size 5....their sizes range from 5-10. Normally, I wear a 4.5 (I know, tiny fingers!) so I was a bit disappointed that they didn't carry my size. But I later found out that they sell "pinky rings", which are sold in sizes 4, 4.5, and 5. Shipping was very quick- less than a week. The item arrived packaged in a purple, velvet pouch- which makes it great for gift giving.

I was very surprised by the quality of the ring. Not that I'm an expext in expensive jewelry or anything...but I thought this ring looked pretty close. I love the sparkle and shimmer of the crystal on this ring. This specific style is an eternity band so I thought this would make a great gift for girlfriends (though I'm not sure if any boys read my blog....girls, let your guys know!). For those on a budget, this can defnitely be used as a promise ring, wedding band, etc...Jewels of Denial also sells engagement rings, "love" rings, and rings that are suitable for everyday wear. They also have a selection of other jewelry, though I don't have a review on those. From what I've seen so far, their products seem like great quality and you don't have to spend a lot.

I know you all must love shiny and sparkly things as much as I do so I'm really excited to announce this next giveaway. Jewels of Denial is graciously offering one of my readers their pick of any one of their pinky rings. Pinky rings "are very thin and dainty as they are designed to be worn on the pinky finger while not over-powering. They could also work well as a toe ring or a child's ring as well". For those of you with tiny fingers like myself, they can be worn just as any other ring. Here are some examples:

There are many more to choose from on the website so be sure to check it out. Here's how to enter the giveaway:
  1. Follow my blog (link located in the right sidebar)
  2. Leave a comment with your name and email address (please make sure you are logged in and use the same email as the one you used to follow this blog). And voila, you're entered!
  3. For one additional entry, you can post this on your blog or twitter (Include the link to the post with your name and email in a separate comment)
I will accept entries until March 21st, 11:59PM/ EST. One winner will be chosen through Random.org. The prize will be sent directly from Jewels of Denial. Sorry, I can only accept entries from U.S. and Canada. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at littlemisssavvy@gmail.com. Thanks for entering and good luck!

Review: Skin MD Natural + Giveaway

I was approached by those over at Skin MD Natural to test their Face, Hand, & Body Shielding Lotion and now, I am finally getting around to doing it. First off, you may be wondering 'what's a shielding lotion?'- here's a brief snippet from their brochure: "Shielding lotions not only protect the skin's barrier but they restore the moisture to the skin and allow the skin to continue to moisturize itself, so that your skin does not become addicted on the moisturizer and ultimately cures the dry skin." Shielding lotion is a fairly new product to skin treatment scene. I was really intrigued by this product as it's different from most traditional moisturizers. It helps rebuild your skin so that is can heal itself. When I first used the product, I liked that it was super light. It won't clog your pores, cause acne, etc. I was skeptical too because I do tend to have extremely dry skin and prefer something heavier for the winter. I tested it for about 1 week- 1.5 weeks. Honestly, I really wasn't expecting too much from this product but I was fairly surprised by the results. After a couple days, my skin felt a bit softer and had a certain glow to it. It's hard to pinpoint exactly what I like about it but my skin just looked overall healthier. It's definitely a great product for those who like light moisturizers. I personally would probably save it for the spring or summer as I like to lather on heavy moisturizer in the wintertime. Skin MD Natural also uses natural ingredients so you don't have to worry about what you're putting on your face. The price per bottle is $18- which can be a bit pricey for some but if you can, I would always splurge a little more on the important products like moisturizers, foundation, etc. Just make sure to do your research before hand about what products might work for you before spending a whole lot on one product. If you're interested in learning more about Skin MD Natural, visit skinmdnatural.com...the website explains it a lot better than I do.

Onto the giveaway...Skin MD Natural was kind enough to offer my readers their own kit to test out the product. One winner will receive a full sized Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion and sample packets (as pictured above). Here's how to enter:
I will accept entries until March 1st, 11:59PM/ EST. One winner will be chosen through Random.org. The prize will be sent directly from Skin MD Natural. Sorry, I can only accept entries from U.S. and Canada. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at littlemisssavvy@gmail.com. Thanks for entering and good luck!

Review: Wet N Wild Creme Eyeliner

Hey everyone!

Just a couple quick updates to begin- I'm sorry for the lack of posts in the past couple of weeks. I'm back in school (last semester before I graduate!) so I've been a little busy with that. I will definitely try this time to put up posts regularly and not let this blog drift off into oblivion. Next, thanks to everyone who entered my Sigma giveaway! I'm really happy with the great response. If you haven't entered, I will be accepting entries until tomorrow at midnight (Look at the post below). I will also be announcing the winner later that week.

Now, on to my review...I recently finished up my MAC fluidline, which is probably my all time favorite eyeliner. I have never found an eyeliner that stay on my eyes and didn't smudge until I found MAC. I decided to go out and try another brand since I'm not exactly thrilled to shell out $15 for a MAC pot. I generally prefer to use creme/gel eyeliners over pencil or liquid ones. I had heard great reviews for the Wet N Wild Creme Eyeliner so I decided to go out and get it- after all, its only 4 bucks. My first impression was that the packaging leaves something to be desired. The plastic cap can be a bit difficult to twist on and off sometimes- which might make the product easier to dry up. I also really wasn't impressed with the mini-angled brush that comes along with it (Sorry I don't have a picture- threw it somewhere and now I can't find it).But as for the product itself, I was actually really impressed. I got the eyeliner in Black (it also comes in Eggplant) and it it truly as black as black can be. It also has tremendous staying power- which is a plus and a negative. In my opinion, it lasts longer than any other creme eyeliner I've tried (including MAC). Even after a 3 hour nap with my makeup on, it didn't smudge at all. However, it's also really difficult to take off. I haven't really found a makeup remover that get rid of it completely, which kind of annoys me. You'll need to get some heavy duty stuff. Overall, I think this is a great product for the price but I think I'll always love my MAC Fluidline.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Review: Sigma Travel Kit + Giveaway

Hey all, I recently purchased a Sigma Travel Kit in Naughty in Black and wanted to do a quick review on it. I had first heard about these brushes from YouTube Gurus and honestly, I was a bit skeptical about whether or not they were worth all the hype. I decided to go ahead and purchase the travel kit since I didn't own any travel sized brushes and do travel every now and then. The kit came with 7 brushes (click the link for more detailed info) and also a complimentary SS187. To my surprise, I also received a full size Indian Girl eyeshadow (a shimmery brown) for free. The brushes come with a leather-like pouch for storage and comes shipped in a purple baggie as well as instructions on how to care for them. So far, I'm really happy with the quality of the brushes. I own a few MAC brushes and the quality between the two brands is very comparable. They are very soft and durable. I've washed them a couple times and I haven't experienced any excessive shedding- just a couple hairs here and there.

My two favorite brushes from the kit are the SS187 and SS150. The SS187 is a Duo Fibre brush, like the MAC 187 (Sigma brushes are number in relation to their MAC counterpart). I actually own the MAC version (which I love). When comparing the two, there are very similar and actually produce the same results for me when applying my liquid foundation. I also love the SS150, in terms of quality and density. It's a great full brush that is really soft and great for applying powder.

The best part about the kit is that it only cost $49 + $4 shipping. If you do the math, that is a under $7 per brush, plus you get a carrying pouch as well as a full size eyeshadow. It is also very handy and easy to pack if you're on the go. If you want an even better deal for everyday use, purchase the full size complete kit....I just might :)

Now, for the fun part...Sigma Makeup were gracious enough to offer a free giveaway to my readers. This is great for those of you who want to test out their products.

One winner will receive a SS217 Blending Brush as well as an Eyeshadow in Indian Girl. Here's how to enter:
  1. Follow my blog (link located in the right sidebar)
  2. Leave a comment with your name and email address (please make sure to use the same email as the one you used to follow this blog). And voila, you're entered!
  3. For one additional entry, you can post this on your blog or twitter (Include the link to the post with your name and email in a separate comment)
I will accept entries until January 31st, 11:59PM/ EST. One winner will be chosen through Random.org. The prize will be sent directly from Sigma Makeup. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at littlemisssavvy@gmail.com. Thanks for entering and good luck!

Review: Pure Ice Nail Polish + Mini Giveaway (CLOSED)

A while back, while browsing through the aisles of Walmart, I spotted a nail polish brand called Pure Ice that caught my eye. I was particularly looking for a shade of purple like the much talked about Metro Chic by Sephora by O.P.I. At the time, I wasn't ready to splurge the $9 on it. I found this color in the Pure Ice collection- I'm not sure if it has a name but the number is '966CP'. From memory, I thought it looked somewhat close and decided to give it a try. About a month later, I received a $15 gift card from Sephora for being a Beauty Insider and decided to spend it on the real Metro Chic. Here's how the color's paired up:

Ok, so I guess I don't have the best judgment of color since the two don't really match up. I must say I am a fan of Metro Chic- I love the grey undertones. But I also love this color by Pure Ice. It's really pretty and great for everyday (I think I love anything purple in general). The color is hard to describe- maybe a deep lavender/ plum. I was also surprised with the quality. I don't really expect much from an inexpensive nail polish but with a couple applications and a top coat, it held up pretty well. I will definitely be checking out the rest of the colors next time I'm looking for a new polish.

Since I liked this product so much, I wanted to share! I purchased another bottle to giveaway as a small thank you to all my readers. Here's how to enter:
  1. Follow my blog (link located in the right sidebar)
  2. Leave a comment with your first name and email address. And voila, you're entered!
  3. For one additional entry, you can post this on your blog or twitter (Include the link to the post with your name and email in a separate comment)
I will accept entries until January 20th. If you have any questions, email me. Good luck!

Note: All products mentioned above were purchased and reviews reflect my personal opinion

UPDATE: Using Random.Org, we have a winner....Congrats Tiffany! I have emailed you with more information. Thanks to everyone who entered...look out for more giveaways in the future!

Small Haul + Review + Ramble

Hey girls,

So I'm not sure if I publicly declared this or not, but one of my New Year's Resolutions was to stop buying makeup and use up the stuff I have. I always have the best intentions going into these things but I never really expect myself to last very long (which is why we shouldn't make resolutions to begin with). Anyhow, I lasted a total of 9 days. Congrats to me...here's what broke my ban:
I stopped by my local CVS yesterday and found a bunch of makeup on sale for 75%. I never really need any of this stuff, but find myself wanting to buy it just because it's on sale. Does anyone else have this problem? I think I might find myself on the verge of a slight shopping problem (LOL!). I got a Milani Palette in Touch of Brown for $1.75 and another for a friend. I also picked up a Rimmel Blush in Santa Rose. I really love the Milani Palette- the colors are gorgeous and great quality, maybe even some of the best eyeshadows I've tried from drugstores. I also really like the blush- it's a nice coral peach. The lasting power isn't that great but hey it was $.87

A few days ago, I ordered these pumps from Aldo. I had been eying them for awhile and finally caved. They are called "Guritz" and available in two colors:
I love suede pumps! They were $40 but I was able to get another 10% off. For those of you new to Aldo, you can sign up for their mailing list on their homepage and they will send you a coupon instantly.

And lastly, look what I found in New York: a giant Hello Kitty sculpture by artist Tom Sachs. So cute and ginormous! If you're in the area, it's located on 53rd and Park.
